ACCESS INFORMATION for GUESTS

The documents below provide statements for each of our accommodation units.

We aim to be really helpful in meeting the individual needs of our guests in making access to and within the accommodation as easy as possible for guests with specific access difficulties. Each of our guests with potential problems with access will have very individual difficulties and requirements and these are best met by direct discussion with guests. We cordially invite potential guests to talk directly to us about how their access difficulties might be overcome. The following statements are therefore for initial guidance to guests and are a way of inviting discussion. We want your holiday to be as enjoyable as possible!

ACCESS STATEMENT FOR HEATHER VIEW

1. Introduction.

Heather View is an apartment on the second floor of Westerclose House. It has its own private access, is spacious and comfortable and has wonderful views across the village of Withypool and the Barle valley. It is our policy to provide guests with as much accurate information as possible. This statement can only highlight some common issues and we know that access needs vary greatly and are very individual to each of our guests and because of this we welcome detailed discussion with any of our guests - do ring us on 01643 831302.

2. Before Arrival at Westerclose

" Our website and our brochure are both extensive and describe all our accommodation and much about Withypool and Exmoor. They have a large number of photos.

" Enquiries and bookings can be made directly from our website via email or via telephone/fax or letter.

" Our website and brochure contain directions on how to reach Westerclose.

" The nearest railway station is 30 miles away at Taunton. There is only a Saturday bus service to Withypool and this connects the village with Taunton.

" The nearest RADAR toilet is in Dulverton, about 8 miles to the south of Withypool.

" Please do contact us either before booking or prior to arrival if you have any queries about access to your accommodation. We will try to respond positively to any need you may have which will make access during your stay more easy for you.

" We can provide much information in large print upon request.

3. Arrival and Car Parking.

" Heather View has its own reserved car parking space directly beside the stairs up to the apartment. The car park is tarmac and level.

" Access to the apartment is by one flight of 16 external stairs, through a private entrance into the House and up a flight of 14 stairs. Both stairs are 2' 6" wide and have banisters which are 100cm above the treads. The maximum height of each tread is 19cm. The door into the house is 73cm wide. Each staircase can be lit at night. Heather View is not suitable for guests with severe mobility difficulties.

" No mobile phone network reaches Withypool. Our Information Room (up a short slight slope with a banister and 2 steps) has a payphone. It also has information on local attractions, walks etc and many leaflets have details on access.

4. The Apartment.

" There is a 7cm step up into Heather View.

" Door widths are generally 68cm. The useable door width into the bedroom is 60 cm.

" The décor is light pastel colours.

" The apartment and the second floor landing are fitted with audible fire alarms. There is a fire procedure displayed in the apartment which describes emergency exit.

" The apartment is fitted throughout with short pile carpet, except the kitchen which has a vinyl covering.

" The bathroom has a bath which is 55cm high; it has integral hand rails on each side. The taps have an integral shower/hair spray. The toilet seat is 42cm high and the washbasin is 75cm high.

" The bedroom can be equipped with either feather or non-feather pillows. The duvet is non-feather. The linen is all cotton. The bed height to top of mattress is 62cm.

" Kitchen work surface height is 93 cm.

" Living/dining room: furniture is moveable and non-feather. The dining table is round and 75cm high. The TV/DVD/Video all have remote controls.

" The apartment is centrally heated. The additional electric fire in the living room has controls 30cm above floor level.

5. Withypool.

" The Royal Oak is about 250 yards down our lane into the village. The lane has a slight gradient and the drive into Westerclose is steep at the entrance.

" The village shop is open 7 days a week and can meet most day to day requirements. It is 150 yards beyond the Royal Oak down a slope towards the river.

" It gets very dark at night as there is very little light pollution and no street lighting.

" There are public toilets opposite the village shop.

4. The Cottage.

" The entrance has an area for hanging coats and a shoe rack and leads directly into the main living area.

" The living room is carpeted and has a tiled grate surrounding the log burner

" In the living/dining room the flooring is short pile carpet. The kitchen area has tiled flooring.

" The décor throughout is light pastel colours.

" Lounge/dining room: furniture is moveable and non-feather. The dining table is round and 73cm high. The TV/DVD/Video all have remote controls.

" The kitchen work surface is 90cm. high.

" The bedroom is off the living room through a doorway 69cm. wide. The en-suite bathroom is off the bedroom through a doorway 57cm. wide.

" The bed in the double bedroom is 4ft. 6inches wide and the height is 50cm. to the top of the mattress. The floor is Axminster carpet. There is 40cm. space on one side of the bed and 110cm. on the other side.

" The bathroom has a bath which is 55cm high. There is a separate shower over the bath. The bath has 2 integral hand rails. The toilet seat is 43cm high and the washbasin is 75cm high. The floor is light coloured vinyl.

" Stable Cottage is fitted with an audible smoke alarm. There is a fire procedure displayed in the apartment which describes emergency exit.

" The bedrooms can be equipped with either feather or non-feather pillows. The duvet is non-feather. The linen is all cotton.

Garden: Access to the garden is from the living area through a doorway 78cm. wide, down 2 small steps each 9cm. high, on to a level patio. Beyond the patio the garden, laid to grass, slopes to the clothes dryer and is secure for most dogs. There is level access from the patio through a garden gate to the car parking in front of the cottage.

4. The Cottage.

" The hall is 90 cm. wide and the floor is tiled.

" The double bedroom is directly ahead through a door 74cm. wide. The bathroom is off the hall through a door 55cm. wide. Access into the living area, kitchen and the single bedroom is also off the hall through a door 74cm. wide.

" In the living area the dining area has vinyl flooring the kitchen has vinyl flooring and the lounge area has short pile carpet.

" The décor throughout is light pastel colours.

" The lounge area has French windows into the garden, down 2 steps (10cm. and 15cm.) on to the small patio. The doors swing outwards and could be used for some support.

" Lounge/dining room: furniture is moveable and non-feather. The dining table is round and cm high. The TV/DVD/Video all have remote controls.

" The kitchen work surface is 90cm. high.

" The bed in the double bedroom is 5ft. king size and the height is 46cm. to the top of the mattress. The floor is Axminster carpet. There is 80cm. space round the whole bed

" The single bedroom is off the lounge area through a wide arch and is separated by heavy curtains. The bed height is 56cm. to the top of the mattress. The flooring is short pile carpet.

" Nethergate Cottage is fitted with 2 audible fire alarms. There is a fire procedure displayed in the apartment which describes emergency exit.

" The bathroom has a bath which is 55cm high. There is a separate shower over the bath and it has a hand rail at shower height. The bath has 2 integral hand rails. The toilet seat is 42cm high and the washbasin is 80cm high. The floor is tiled.

4. The Cottage.

Downstairs:

" Door widths are generally 71cm. The hall is 100cm. wide and the floor is polished pine.

" Bantam has a downstairs single bedroom off the hall, with a 4'6" bed. The bed height to the top of the mattress is 57cm. It is possible for 2 people to use this bedroom if necessary. The floor is polished pine.

" There is a downstairs bathroom off the hall. This has an oval jacuzzi bath with a separate shower over. It is 70cm. wide max. and 150cm. long and 55cm high. The toilet is 43cm. high and the washbasin is 75cm. high. The floor is polished pine.

" The décor throughout is light pastel colours with contrasting stained wood door surrounds and skirtings.

" Bantam Cottage is fitted with 2 audible fire alarms. There is a fire procedure displayed in the apartment which describes emergency exit.

" The living room is fitted throughout with short pile carpet and the kitchen is polished pine.

" The living room has French windows opening on to the verandah and garden. There is one 20cm. step down to the verandah and another step of 15cm. from the verandah on to the lawn. The railings of the verandah are 120cm. high and can be used to provide some support stepping down on to the grass.

" Living/dining room: furniture is moveable and non-feather. The dining table is round and 75cm high. The TV/DVD/Video all have remote controls.

" Kitchen work surface height is 90cm.

Upstairs:

" The staircase up from the living room has no door at the bottom or from the top landing. A stairgate can be fitted on the landing. There are 13 steps. The staircase is 87cm. wide, has a handrail 80cm. above the treads; the last 2 steps are on a corner and it is covered with short pile carpet.

" The bathroom has a bath which is 55cm high; it has integral hand rails on each side. The taps have an integral shower/hair spray. The toilet seat is 43cm high and the washbasin is 84cm high.

" The bedrooms can be equipped with either feather or non-feather pillows. The duvet is non-feather. The linen is all cotton.

" The double bedroom has a king size 5ft. bed. The height to top of mattress is 55cm. There is min. 60cm. space right round the bed.

" There is a twin bedded room and the height to the top of the mattress of each bed is 50cm.

" The floors of the bedrooms and the bathroom are polished pine with removeable rugs.

Garden: There is level access from the garden through a garden gate to the car parking in front of the cottage.

4. The Cottage.

Entrance Hall:

The front door opens into a hall half way up the cottage staircase. The hall is 80cm wide. From the hall there are 7 steps down into the kitchen/dining room and 6 steps up to the bedrooms on the first floor. The staircase is 85cm. wide and each tread is 20cm high. The surface is varnished pine and there is a banister 83cm. above the treads.

The décor throughout the cottage is light pastel colours.

Downstairs:

" The large dining kitchen has a lot of circulation space. The work surfaces are at a height of 92cm. The rectangular dining table is 74cm high. The flooring is vinyl.

" There is a dishwasher and washing machine and a tumble drier is available.

" The large lounge is reached through a doorway from the dining kitchen which is 70cm wide.

" The lounge furniture is moveable and non-feather. Chair cushions are 46cm high. The lounge is fitted with Axminster carpet. The TV/DVD/video all have remote controls.

" The downstairs shower room and cloakroom are accessed through a door 70cm wide. The shower cubicle door is 70cm wide and there is a 25cm step into the shower tray. The cloakroom WC seat is 44cm high and the washbasin is 82cm high. The floor is vinyl.

" Pennycombe Cottage is fitted with 2 audible fire alarms - one downstairs and one upstairs. There is a fire procedure displayed in the apartment which describes emergency exit.

Upstairs:

" The staircase has no door at the bottom or from the top landing. A stairgate can be fitted.

" The bathroom has a bath which is 54cm high; it has integral hand rails on each side. The taps have an integral shower/hair spray. The toilet seat is 44cm high and the washbasin is 74cm high. The floor is vinyl.

" The door openings are 63cm wide.

" The bedrooms can be equipped with either feather or non-feather pillows. The duvet is non-feather. The linen is all cotton.

" The double bedroom has a minimum space of 64cm round the bed and 130cm on the side adjacent to the door. The height to top of the mattress is 63cm.

" There is a twin bedded room and the height to the top of the mattress of each bed is 53cm. The bed nearest the door has 90cm of space available at its side.

" The third bedroom has 2 adult size bunk beds with a ladder up to the top bunk.

" The floors of the bedrooms are short pile carpet. Garden: The dining kitchen has French windows giving a wide opening onto the patio and garden. There is one 15cm doorstep down to the patio. From the patio the garden is mainly level grass. There is a small slope down the garden gate and into the main drive.

5. Withypool.

" The Royal Oak is about 250 yards down our lane into the village. The lane has a slight gradient and the drive into Westerclose is fairly steep at the entrance.

" The village shop is open 7 days a week and can meet most day to day requirements. It is 150 yards beyond the Royal Oak down a slope towards the river.
